Casting Choice #1: Manu Benett as protagonist Guts After seeing Manu Benett as Crixus in Spartacus, it was obvious he would be cast as Guts. Both Manu and Guts share a similar facial structure, both with a chiselled, intimidating and hardened face. In addition both of them share a similar physique and build type, both extremely masculine, tall, big and intimidating. The personification of endurance and willpower, yet also of tragedy and hardships. Guts as a character is very complex, and to put it simply very human in his personality. Guts is seen as a tragic hero, forced into a life of violence and deceit, his moments of happiness and joy were short lived, as he saw those he loved murdered before him. During the manga Guts goes though many horrific and inhumane trials that no human should go through, and as such his personality and character demonstrates significant shifts as the story progresses. After seeing Manu Bennett in both Spartacus, Arrow and in the Hobbit I am confident in his acting ability. To be able to go from a quiet, humane swordsman to an angered fuelled berserker.
