After seeing Manu Benett as Crixus in Spartacus, it was obvious he would be cast as Guts. Both Manu and Guts share a similar facial structure, both with a chiselled, intimidating and hardened face. In addition both of them share a similar physique and build type, both extremely masculine, tall, big and intimidating. The personification of endurance and willpower, yet also of tragedy and hardships. Guts as a character is very complex, and to put it simply very human in his personality. Guts is seen as a tragic hero, forced into a life of violence and deceit, his moments of happiness and joy were short lived, as he saw those he loved murdered before him. Similar to Zoe Saldana, Dolph Lungren has a striking resemblance to Gambino physique wise and their facial structure and background. With his role in the expendables movies he is definitely capable of expressing the emotions and misdirected anger within Gambino.

The Berserk Manga is really explicit, for it really shows what true evil is and therefore the manga has a really dark tone not found elsewhere. As such though it will still be R rated, much of the explicit scenes such as rape should be removed or only implied, and several fight scenes toned down. Berserk consists of 37 volumes with nearly 300 pages each, as such the movie should only adapt/cover the first arc (Golden Age Arc) but end at the beginning of the next arc where Guts escapes and survives, which could lead to a possible sequel.
