No, they must execute the entire procedure unless the pilot requests and is cleared the visual approach by ATC

What must a pilot report during a Visual Approach at a Controlled Aerodrome?

A) Identification:


Report callsign, followed by "VISUAL APPROACH"



B) Position


1. Distance and direction from aerodrome, or;


2. Distance and on final approach, or;


3. Position in the circuit, or;


4. Position relative to promulgated visual reporting point



C) Altitude, and altitude descending to, if a restriction has been imposed.

When must pilots report airborne after take-off at Approach Controlled Aerodromes (OH CH AK QT WGTN BAY), and what must the report contain? (ENR 1.1-6, Para 5.4)

Report must be made as soon as practicable after take-off (after an automatic frequency change prior to passing 1500ft IAW AVO's Leaflet A7, Para 7.2, unless otherwise instructed by ATC), and it must contain;



A) Identification:


Report radio callsign, and;



B) Altitude:


Report altitude to the nearest 100ft, followed by the phrase "CLIMBING TO" followed by the cleared altitude or FL of the initial portion of the flight

When can solo students request a Visual Approach at Ohakea?

When reported cloud ceilings are at least 2500ft AGL and there is at least 5km visibility.

Maintain last assignee level until established on the final approach track, and then commence the approach.
