What is text structure?
The way in which a given text is organized. Makes it easier to read and emphasize the authors point.
What is a sequence?
Ideas as a bulleted or numbered lists
Problem- Solution structure
Problem in one paragraph, the solution in the other. Or the writer may use one paragraph and just write problem in one font, and the solution in the other.
Compare-Contrast Structure
Author presents two different cases with the intent if making the reader consider the differences or similarities between the two cases.
Cause and effect structure
Author normally presents an action first, and then describes the effects that result or may result from that action.
Description structure
Has no formatting; just appears in the middle of paragraph. It is used to describe tend to describe or characteristics a person, thing or idea.
Example of structure:
That old park bench is an eyesore. It used to be yellow, but rust has turned it a mottled red. The bench slats are worn and splintered, and termite holes dot their surface. When the wind blows showers of rust and old paint fly into the grass
Text uses a descriptive structure. It's describing the bench.
Example of structure: my neighbor seems to like ding everything wrong, he always leaves the garage door open, so his dog constantly escapes. He rakes leaves on a windy day so the leaves blow right back into his hard. He opens the window to let a wasp out of the house, and three more fly in through the gap. He tries to call hi dog by yelling at it-so the dog just runs away. I sometimes wonder if the man takes pleasure in fAilure.
This paragraph uses cause and effect structure. The first sentence introduces the premise (the neighbor who always does thngs wrong) and the last sentence sums things up. All the other have a cause and effect relationship

Expresses the main point of the paragraph or of a larger text structure such as an essay or book. Usually a paragraph starts with a topic sentence. Topic sentence usually in the beginning of the paragraph.
What is a summary sentence?
Generally appear at or neath end of a paragraph, chapter, section, or document. Sometimes they sum up the point of the earlier text, driving the message home so the reader does not forget or miss it, other times they draw up a conclusion that goes one step further then a topic sentence. The sentence draws a conclusion based on the topic.
Hw do you find a topic sentence?
When looking for the topic sentence of any piece of text, look near the beginning of the text first. The topic sentence usually makes a statement that the remaining sentences will Explain, discuss or elaborate on.
How do you find a summary sentence?
Look near the end of the given text first. The summary sentence may reiterate the topic, and may draw a conclusion that was not fully explained in the topic sentence . This conclusion is based on the discussion and explanations found in the main body of the text.
