Have you ever felt trapped by your parents? Maybe there was even a time that you really wanted to go out with a friend and your parents kept telling you one thing, “No.” Why is it that they always say that? Are they afraid themselves of what may or may not happen? Well let me tell you something, the way that i was brought up, is a lot like the article “The Allegory of The Cave” by Plato. The main idea of this article is about how a few prisoners were trapped inside a cave. The prisoners were only aloud to face one direction and they were not aloud to move from left or right. They just sat forward and could not even turn their heads to see what may be beside them. These prisoners were taught certain things and ideas that others have …show more content…
Those parenting styles are, authoritarian parenting, authoritative parenting, permissive parenting, and sadly uninvolved parenting. Each parenting style is very different in their own way, but may have both success and downfall.

The authoritarian parenting style happens to be where the “parents are stricter and create more rules that they expect their children to follow. If a child does not follow the rules, it normally results into a punishment. Many parents fail to explain the reasoning being those rules.” (Cherry, Kendra) This type of parenting is commonly used every day and many parents expect their child to obey their rules, but the parent themselves do not give a valid explanation as to why the rule is that. This is very similar to Plato’s article because they made all of the prisoners just sit inside the cave and did not explain to them why they could not go outside the cave. In this case, a prisoner finally rebelled and left the cave to explore the outside world. This then comes to that same question of “why?” Why do parents teach us certain things, while leaving some other information out. Many parents are afraid to let us go. “Parents also feel as if they lose their companion”.(Pickhardt, Carl E) If a parent lets their child go, they have no one to talk to or to chat with. This type of parenting is good, only if they have an explanation of why the child has to obey the
