By saying it is important for a leader to have a vision would be an understatement, because it is vital for a leader to visualize which direction he or she can see the company/ organization going. However, any vision is not sufficient, a leader must have a positive vision in which they can convey what they see to their employees or team members in an influential way (Leading & Leadership, 1997). There are a few ways as a leader you can try and relate your vision by having a positive impact on your employees or team members. Knowing yourself and the organization could be one of them. You cannot visualize the future of the organization with all new ideas, some of them need to encompass perfecting current methods that the organization has in place. Allowing your team members a chance to be involved with innovating ideas will help ensure that your vision as a leader will have its best outcome. I believe, part of a leaders vision for the future of a organization/company needs to utilize all the thoughts and ideas from their diverse team. Also, team members who are more actively involved in the processes of an organization seem to be more willing to accomplish what their manager or supervisor told them to do (Leading & Leadership, 1997). Allowing the opinions of other team members to influence the leaders vision will ensure the leaders future plan is well rounded and thought out. Goal setting goes hand in hand with a leaders vision. Leaders must emphasize the importance of setting and obtaining the organizations goals. "Goal setting is a powerful process for imagining an ideal future and motivating yourself and the team to turn your vision into reality" (Goss, 2010, p. 88). In the online article "Leading & Leadership," it goes over four characteristics that the U.S Army uses in their handbook which are: goal difficulty, goal specificity, feedback, and participation in goal setting (Leading & Leadership, 1997).
