Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
I looked around, only to find unfamiliar faces staring up at me, they were all kids just like me, however, their innocent, yet blank stares seemed to burn through my skin. It was the fall of 2006 and I was standing in Mr.Figueroa 's second-grade classroom appearing like a lost puppy. Fortunately, Mr. Figueroa, a tall man, with sympathetic eyes was Spanish fluent, therefore, I was at least able to introduce myself. However, he made the innocent mistake of asking me to introduce myself to the class as well. "Helloooo", my mind rehearsed, I couldn 't find the right sounds and I began to feel the embarrassment rise to my cheeks. However, I realized that AVID was the best route for me since both of my parents did not attend college and do not comprehend the school system either. My parents are from a completely different world and I am also the oldest child, therefore, college seems like quite a stretch, but now after 5 years of “advancement through my own determination” and with the help of AVID, I am now sure college is for me I may no longer have the desire to be lawyer, but I maintain a high standards and I don’t plan on settling for anything less what I have planned for my future in helping
