The massive and sudden attack by the German troops was called Blitzkrieg or the lightning war. The attack was named as such due to the fact that it was a surprise attack, an attack as fast as lightning. Due to the rapidity of German air attacks most of Poland’s air forces were destroyed while still on the ground. Moreover, many Polish soldiers were machine-gunned by German air forces while still in the air. The Blitzkrieg war tactic is known to be the basis of modern warfare in the ages of tanks, aircrafts, and even the radios. This war tactic was very easily able to defeat the Polish army, due to the fact that the Polish army used out dated Cavalry and out dated Air Force making it easier for Germans to overtake Poland. By 1940, Germany was also able to defeat the French army in Poland even though the French had the same weapons as the Germans. Nonetheless, instead of expanding trade with other countries around the world Japan, much like Germany wanted to expand its empire by conquering neighboring countries. One of Japan’s generals, Hideki Tojo was the prime minster of Japan. He was able to make Japan militaristic and aggressive in around the 1930s. Similar to Hitler who was feared by many, Tojo became the minister of war in July 1941 and prime minister in October of the same year. Due to Japan’s need for expansion, it seized Manchuria located in China in 1931 and soon waged war against China in 1937. As a result of Japan’s decision for war against China; President Roosevelt and his Secretary of State Cordel Hull shut of all American trade to Japan. After general Hideki Tojo short and failed attempt to improve relations with US, the Japanese became even more aggressive towards the United States.
