Japan decided to strike Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, even though they knew that the United States did not want to be a part of WWII. The reason Japan decided to strike was out of fear. General Tojo Hideki became prime minister of Japan in October 1941. He feared that all of Japan’s plans to finally rule over Southeast and East Asia were in danger. At around 1:30 the afternoon of the attack, President Roosevelt was conferring with advisor Harry Hopkins. During the talk that Roosevelt and Harry were having Navy Secretary Frank Knox had busted through the door and announced that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor at around 6:40 that morning.
