In the ER priorities are always in place for every person in the department. “For us [it] is [putting] patient safety first, second is staff safety because it's an emergency room, third is making sure that we can have a good flow in the emergency room,” Nurse Medina says. Most people know that the ER is always hectic and busy, and the staff works around the hour to help the people coming in. Being the head staff of the ER seems difficult for one person, but Nurse Medina is always on top of her game when there is a lot of pressure. Medina says, “I perform extremely well all the time because having to allocate the patients where I have people coming in and ambulances coming in and I have to delegate transporters, clerks, nurses, nursing assistants, plus deal with the patients and know everything that's going on with every patient in the emergency room.” Being in charge of the entire ER staff and knowing all the things that are going on with the patient is extremely impressive, especially if it is on a weekday.
