Only 12% of the police force in the United States are women. Law enforcement is today's slowest increase of gender employment equality. Women all over the world should be able to have a successful career in law enforcement. There should be more women law enforcers because they are less likely to use aggression & policewoman see law enforcement as a public services. Also, women can be more helpful when it comes to victims. When policewoman are on the job they face a lot of harassment from their male co-workers and discrimination. More policewoman is a better choice because studies have shown that women in policing are less likely to use deadly force. They are also less likely than their male coworkers to be involved in fights or acts of aggression …show more content…
They mostly worked with women, children & guarding women's prisons. In the beginning, they had very limited responsibilities. In 1972, Congress passed a law that prohibits discriminating against gender. Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia conducted a study. They hired a group of new female officers. Their study showed that citizens treated them with the same amount of respect. In the early 1900s, women were not allowed to drive a "pursuit cars" or shoot firearms. Also, women had lower physical ability targets because of the stereotypes of women. Women in law enforcement bring a lot to the job, they offer different ways of dealing with conflict. Some people think that women may not have the strength of men, but their bravery, creativity, and verbal skills make them good for the job. Many male police officers could learn a lot from their female co-workers. Women now teach self-defense at police academies, since it's been proven that size has nothing to do with being a good police officer. Women in law enforcement also face what people called a glass ceiling. Woman are unable to rise up to supervisory titles or get promoted because of the lack of respect, despite their qualification.
