If law enforcement agencies strengthened their relationship with the community, minorities will be more likely to work for law enforcement agencies. It’s tough for someone to work with an agency that is not liked by some members of society. It’s tougher for someone to work with an agency that is not liked by members of that person’s family. For instance, a Hispanic female might feel comfortable talking to a Hispanic, female police officer after a severe situation because they are less likely to have a misunderstanding during their conversation. A Hispanic female might have a misunderstanding while talking with a Caucasian male or African American male officer. In fact, a female might release more information to a female officer than she would to a male officer because the female officer might be able to relate to what the female victim is going through. This goes to show that having a diverse workplace that consists of men and women from different races and backgrounds will help the community feel comfortable when talking to police
