During 1873 The Comstock act was in effect and its mindset was alike to the Victorian era. These ideals were based around the ideas that a woman should not be able to do anything vulgar or anything that would show a women being attracted to anything sexual and anything that would oppose to a woman conceiving a child. Margaret Sanger was one of the first women in American history to go against the past feminine ideals. Sanger’s main motivation to go against the law, was the idea that women weren't given an option to conceive a child. There has been many struggles to bring women to where they are. It was sent to be immediately shut down by officials. When birth control made its way back into the scene women were fighting so somehow get their hands on it. This was proven when ¨typically poor uneducated, the defendants were the first persecuted by the Comstock failed to present defense on their own behalf¨(jrank). When the officials reacted like this it made the people around them in shock because they believed it was going to be an underground project but since so many women were in need so that failed to happen. For many years, it was known as a taboo subject to talk about nor actually take action upon it. Once women began to use birth control birth rates dropped drastically by ¨50 percent¨(Ncbi) . With the amount of children being born lowered women now had the option to go out and work and get themselves ahead on the world. This had brought women to a realization they now had the liberty to have control over their lives. The ability to stop conceiving children was such a wonderful step into a brighter fire future with less poverty. Improvements like this in our society have brought a large percentage of women to succeed in life without having the burden of a child with them on every step of the way. Objections like this became more obvious when “ Sanger objected to the unnecessary suffering endured by the mess”().Margaret was the first to truly not abide to the governments rule.
