Why Is Theodore Roosevelt Necessary

Theodore Roosevelt had the qualities that were necessary of a president; he believed in himself and his self-confidence radiated out of his personality. He was able to recognize his own abilities, both mental and physical. He was even an advocate for living a “strenuous lifestyle,” which he carried out exclusively in his horseback riding. Nonetheless, his policies and ideals reflected how aggressively he strived to achieve the goals set out by the U.S. Roosevelt treated his foreign polices and goals for the U.S. aggressively, which resulted in both major achievements as well as a few failures. Roosevelt is frequently characterized by his aggressiveness and lacking of the ability to communicate his plans in a peaceful way. Although the former characteristic of the president may be true—it is clearly visible in the way he handled matters—he was also very much aware of his peacemaker-like duties. That is, he recognized that he had to handle certain foreign policies gently, not aggressively. For example, in the case of the Russo-Japanese War, Roosevelt approached the issues with opens arms, ready to mediate between the two. Another one of his closely held beliefs was that the exportation of American values and ideals would have an ennobling effect on the world. He believed that somebody of importance and power like him must be willing to use force when necessary while practicing the art of persuasion. All of these beliefs, among many others, are why he is so often attributed the quality of being
