Why Do Pit Bulls Become Aggressive

Thirty-four deaths have occurred because of dog bites. Eighty-two percent of those deaths are caused by pit bulls. That does not convince one that pit bulls are not aggressive. Pit bulls of course are aggressive, but blaming them for that aggression is what is wrong.
Even though people stereotype pit bulls as dangerous, it does not mean they are accurate. Pit bulls can be referred to as “nanny dogs.” Pit bulls are known for their loyalty. They will do anything to please their owner even if that means taking care of their owner’s kids. They will be the family’s best friend until the day they die, if they are treated right. There are medical reasons that explain how pit bulls can become aggressive. Hypothyroidism can make pit bulls and other dogs aggressive. Hypothyroidism is a disorder in the thyroid gland and makes the metabolism decrease and energy levels decrease. Some symptoms of this disorder is not wanting to play or getting tired easily. If a child is wanting a pit bull with hypothyroidism to play and not leaving him alone this could cause him to get angry and aggressive (“Reasons for Aggression in Dogs” 1). Full or partial seizures can also cause a pit bull to become aggressive. Before a seizure occurs, a pit bull might seem worried, scared, or stressed out. These things can cause aggression in the pit bull (“Seizures and Convulsions in Dogs” 1). When a pit bull fears for their life, they will act out and become angry. Another thing that can cause aggression in pit bulls is damage to the brain from diseases and tumors (“Reasons for Aggression in Dogs” 1).When brain damage occurs the perception and judgement of the dog may be affected.
