Introduction
The human race has been trained to coexist, on the other hand, animals of other kinds are not. Pit bulls are their own breed, similar to human beings. They are seeking ways to adapt to their surroundings, and in many cases they have been known to perform acts of aggression in the process. Pit bull attacks are notoriously showcased on national news for the animals aggressive behavior, but what is never mentioned by the media is that humans also have a profound influence on the reported situations. Poor treatment of dogs in general results in aggressive behavior. Pit bulls face a variety of different forms of abuse, generally in situations regarding preparation for dog fights.

The determining factor of whether they grow up with the correct behavior is heavily influenced by how the owners are raising and breeding them.
There are many people that support the banning of pit bulls. People that support these bans believe that this breed contains a great risk to public safety and that a ban is necessary, even if innocent dogs and owners are penalized in the process. People say that these dogs have a threatening presence due to their reputation, which ultimately creates the feeling of discomfort when these animals are in an individual’s environment.
In the book “Pit Bull Panic” by Judy Cohen, Cohen states, “these days, buying a pit bull means buying into a controversy.” This means that people have disagreements about whether people should or should not have pit bulls as pets. In the 1970s, norms regarding exposure to this specific breed began to change. The awareness of the “pit bull panic” started, which essentially caused the general public to develop legitimate fear of pit bulls, also causing insurance companies to raise their insurance rates, and the agencies would not allow people to have them as pets. Many shelters in today’s society do not even take pit bulls into their shelter. The American Kennel Club does not recognize the American pit bull terrier, but it does acknowledge an extremely similar breed called the Staffordshire terrier.
