The human race has been trained to coexist, on the other hand, animals of other kinds are not. Pit bulls are their own breed, similar to human beings. They are seeking ways to adapt to their surroundings, and in many cases they have been known to perform acts of aggression in the process. Pit bull attacks are notoriously showcased on national news for the animals aggressive behavior, but what is never mentioned by the media is that humans also have a profound influence on the reported situations. Poor treatment of dogs in general results in aggressive behavior. Pit bulls face a variety of different forms of abuse, generally in situations regarding preparation for dog fights.

The determining factor of whether they grow up with the correct behavior is heavily influenced by how the owners are raising and breeding them.
There are many people that support the banning of pit bulls. People that support these bans believe that this breed contains a great risk to public safety and that a ban is necessary, even if innocent dogs and owners are penalized in the process. People say that these dogs have a threatening presence due to their reputation, which ultimately creates the feeling of discomfort when these animals are in an individual’s environment.
In the book “Pit Bull Panic” by Judy Cohen, Cohen states, “these days, buying a pit bull means buying into a controversy.” This means that people have disagreements about whether people should or should not have pit bulls as pets. In the 1970s, norms regarding exposure to this specific breed began to change. The awareness of the “pit bull panic” started, which essentially caused the general public to develop legitimate fear of pit bulls, also causing insurance companies to raise their insurance rates, and the agencies would not allow people to have them as pets. Many shelters in today’s society do not even take pit bulls into their shelter. The American Kennel Club does not recognize the American pit bull terrier, but it does acknowledge an extremely similar breed called the Staffordshire terrier. This name distinction was created in an effort to separate the breed from its negative

Despite how long Pit Bulls have been around, stories of Pit Bull attacks didn’t begin to pick up steam until the 1980s. This happens to coincide with the reemergence of dog fighting in the United States ( Liddle, 4). So the point on whether the dog breed is necessarily good or bad is still debatable in some cases. From knowing their history of fighting, having the genetic line of fighting, and the attack rates to knowing that the breed is family safe and having emotions to show the caring of the…

Pit bulls, just like any other dog, want a caring family and a joyous home. Some individuals may argue that pit bulls should not be allowed to be kept as pets due to a few of the vicious crimes they have committed in the past, however, the entire pit bull breed should not be punished for the act of a few of their counterparts. Pit bulls, as long as they have a positive home environment, the proper social interaction, and get plenty of exercise are no more dangerous than any other dog and should be allowed to be kept as pets. Pit bulls, in order for them to behave well, need an owner that will work with them and give them a proper environment. Before taking on the challenge of raising a pit bull, one must know that it does require a certain…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

The problem is also local and immediate, as Denver, Colorado, has a city ordinance that bans the ownership of pit bulls, a ban that only has a basis in stereotypes and not in reality. As a breed, pit bulls should not be banned, as their stereotyped behavior is not directly related to their disposition as a breed, and measures can be taken by human owners to ensure that they are raised to be well behaved. CAUSES Pit bull behavior is, for the most part, dictated by factors outside of their genetics, and pit bulls begin their development at conception and…

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…

Banning Pit Bulls Doesn’t Solve the Problem Pit bulls are vicious animals and should not be pets, but let’s look at what they were really bred for. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (ASPCA) Pitbull’s were bred for bull-baiting and bear-baiting. They were bred to hold these large animals by the face in the United Kingdom. When this had become illegal in the late 1800s, people decided a new fate for these companions, which was fighting.…

The reason a lot of bad people used these dogs is because they 're so loyal and they want to please their owner, so if the owner says to do something or the dog is trained a certain way, it 's going to do it. This is another reason these dogs are feared . What a lot of people hear is that Pit Bulls are born and meant to be fighting dogs and because of all media these myths spread real quick, and then you have this breed that is being bred all around the world and used for the wrong things. Truth be told, this is not what Pits are meant for, according to “Pitbull Myths”, “This breed is routinely used for: obedience trialing, conformation showing, weight pull, Schutzhund (a German sport which requires dogs to perform in obedience, tracking and protection phases of a competition), agility, and have even been known to…
