Who Was Terry Fox A True Canadian Hero

Who is a hero for you? Many people answer that from superheroes to a war hero because people have different views on heroes. However, heroes are for me people who think of others first before they think of themselves. The best example of heroes is Terry Fox who was a Canadian and marathoner. Even though Terry Fox had his right leg amputated at the knee because of cancer, he tried to run across Canada to raise money for people with cancer, so many Canadian admire him. According to the Dominion institute and the council for Canadian unity (1999), Terry Fox was voted Canada’s greatest hero in a national survey in June 30, 1999. In his entire life, there are three reasons that Terry Fox became the greatest hero in Canada.

Even though he had his right leg amputated, he didn’t lose positive mind. He had physical therapist diligently to walk again. Dr. Ladislav said that he was impressed with Fox’s positive mind. Eventually, he recovered rapidly. He was walking three weeks after his surgery, and he played golf with his father six weeks after his surgery (source internet).
While he was having physical therapist, he spent time with cancer patients who are suffering and getting weak by the disease. He was inspired by the children cancer patient bravery because even though they are young, they struggled to cure the disease. In addition, he was a one of the lucky person to survive in the cancer clinics. He never forgot what he felt when he was in the cancer clinics. For that reasons, he decided to do something challenging. He was determined to compete in a marathon himself to raise money for people with cancer

The decision makes people have courage and willingness to challenge. He inspires people to have bravery by challenging hardship. Furthermore, he increase cancer awareness, so it let people rethink about patients.
To carry out his decision, he sent a letter to the Canadian Cancer Society. He informed his goal and appealed for funding. In the letter, he showed his will. He mentioned that even if he had to crawl every last mile, he would complete his run. However, The Canadian Cancer Society was skeptical of his dedication. In addition, some of companies requested that he promoted their products, but he refused their suggestion because he wanted that nobody was to profit from his run. Even though he was under very difficult circumstances, he made an effort to put a plan into action
