They Made Me

Jon Bielecki once said, “Your circle of influence dictates your path.” Throughout life many people come and go, but it is the people who stick around who have the largest impact on one’s life. As each day goes by I look at where I am in my life now, where I used to be, and where I want to be and must give credit to the influence my family has had on me. My mom, dad, and siblings have made me the person I am today and help me strive to be the best person I can be in the future. From the moment she first laid eyes on me, my mom knew she was going to love me for the rest of her life. I have to admit it; every day I take a step closer to becoming my mother. The truth is I am completely thrilled about it. When I was younger my mom taught me confidence. There is no significance to what brand of clothes I own, how much makeup I pile on my face, or the way I wear my hair. My mom wore jeans with holes because she was spending her money on new toys for us kids, her makeup was rarely done because she had run out of time after braiding our hair, and on top of her head sat a disheveled mess because she was busy picking up the toys we left around the house. Yet, somehow she managed to pull it off because she had confidence. Her confidence radiated from her face and heart. I knew from a young age that I wanted to have the same confidence as my mother.
