Musculocutaneous flaps, is one of many flaps used in reconstructive surgery, it is a segment of tissue transplanted to a defected area while maintaining its own and/or original blood supply. Musculocutaneous flaps encompass skin, subcutaneous tissue, fat, and muscle, which can be harvested from; inguinal area, dorsal area, forearm, pectoral region, scapular region and latissimus dorsi.
During this thesis presentation, I will focus on the different types of flaps in reconstructive surgery but mainly focusing on musculocutaneous flaps, where they are harvested from and what they are indicated for. Various case reports from previous studies will also be used to demonstrate a variety of methods used for each flap.
