What I Learned In Mla Format Paper

A wise man by the name of Mortimer Alder once said, “The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies,

can continue growing as we continue to live.” We never outgrow the ability to learn, so we should continue to strive to learn

something new daily. During the past semester while taking Composition II, I learned a myriad of things that are going to help

me in my future such as how to properly cite in MLA format, how to not plagiarize, and how to become more organized. Before

this class, I never knew the right way to write MLA format papers or cite. However, during this class I learned what information

needed to be included in the citations as well as the format the citation had to be in. I also learned how to ensure that I was

Throughout all my years of school, I have been plagiarizing without even realizing it. I always thought that if I

changed the words around a little bit or simply substituted a known word for a synonym then I had not plagiarized. However, in

Composition II, I learned that what I had been doing was still plagiarism. In order not to plagiarize, one must paraphrase and

give credit where credit is due by including in text citations. In addition to how to cite in MLA format and how to not plagiarize, I

learned how to become more organized. Prior to this class, I had never even heard of pre-writing. However, this simple trick is

very helpful when trying to begin a plan in your mind. Also, I had never physically made an outline to follow while writing a

research paper. I would form a rough outline mentally but would always become scatter brained and forget what else I

MLA format was expected to be known through all my past classes and I’ve been so accustomed to using it, I didn’t expect to be surprised reading through Purdue Owl. On the contrary, I did learn a few interesting things that I haven’t been implementing when formatting my essays. When citing my sources, usually my main focus would be the Works Cited page, however the in-text citations have equal importance. Often times, I would save my citations for last, causing me to miss a few points that were maybe hidden, for example a paraphrase rather than an obvious quote. Purdue Owl broke down every element to how to properly cite an essay which was a great refresher.…

The act of plagiarism is unforgivable, especially in a college environment. Stealing someone’s ideas and claiming them as one’s own is a guaranteed way to be kicked out of college. I believe that this act is wrong, but sadly it’s this same act that I have committed. My plagiarism charge comes from my Tiwi of Australia case study professor. Professor Proudhon spotted a section in my report that came almost directly from a passage and wasn’t cited correctly.…

Over the course of the last week, the class has examined the proper ways in which to cite according to MLA specifications. We have reviewed the ways in which to prove whether or not a source is credible, and we have begun the work on our second-to-last paper, the annotated bibliography. Some of the most common mistakes that occur when writing a MLA formatted essay or other piece of writing can include improper citations or improper heading format. I struggled specifically with remembering the order in which the MLA header was supposed to be written. I did not actually sit down and commit to memory the correct order (name, teacher, class, date) until the summer before I started college.…

Plagiarism is defined as; “ intentional unacknowledged use or incorporation of any other person's work in, or as a basis for, one's own work offered for academic consideration or credit or for public presentation”. In this essay I will be informing you on why plagiarism is not a good idea when writing an essay and what consequences may lead up to your actions. The University of Utah and Brigham Young University are some the amazing colleges I am really looking forward to attending after I graduate. On the University of Utah’s school website they have a plagiarism policy written in a student handbook. “Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, representing as your own, without attribution, another individual’s words, phrasing, ideas, information…

Throughout my life, I have been willing to learn. When it comes to school I have a growth mindset, because I have always been willing to hear others’ points of view. Carol Dweck and her colleagues believe that learning is really a function of attitude, grit and perseverance, rather than natural talent, and that mindset can be changed (Dweck 4). Someone's mindset can either prevent changes from happening or allow new skills to blossom. Anyone can learn something new if he or she is willing to learn and do the work necessary.…

My experience in writing in a college-level based class has taught me a lot about the strength and weakness of my writing. As a writer, I try to convey as much information as possible to the reader and make sure to clarify all of my statements. But, sometimes I jumble sentences together causing comma splices and really make it hard for the reader to essentially; read. I’m working on sentence structure to help create a flow within my writing. Along with sentence structure, organization is also something that is on my priority list.…
