The Importance Of APA Formatting

Improved Essays
The topic I chose is APA formatting. I chose this particular writing skill because this is something that I constantly struggle with. One minute I submit it right and the next minute I don’t. I have contacted the Ashford writing center several times throughout my years at Ashford and to think I would actually get it right for a change, but I still have a constant struggle with my formatting. The resources I found helpful with APA formatting is the in-text citation guide along with citing my resources for the reference page. I anticipate that this particular skill can help me in this course by continuously reading the instructions and guidelines to learning how to format things correctly, even with citing information correctly. 3.2 Sampling I found my research participants through snowball sampling. Snowball sampling is a well established practice of asking respondents to recommend other possible research participants. Which in my case, the respondents willingly helped to share my survey link. The big advantage of this method is that it increases the number of respondents because people become more positive towards a researcher and are more willing to cooperate when introduced to someone they know. With snowball sampling, participants in the research are more likely to know each other and thus have a bigger chance of sharing a particular background and characteristics that are likely to colour their views and opinions.…

PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…

When citing something that is found on a website in APA style, one must check to see if any information is missing before citing. If all pieces are available for citing then no solution is needed; therefore, proceed by writing the author’s name, date, title, and source. The author’s last name is typed first then followed by their first name initial. One must follow the correct format of using brackets whenever it is needed for the title. The date must be typed in parenthesis and ending with a period.…

Pro Point Two, by having set standards on format, students are able to learns skills such implementing citations and research into their writing. The Texas FFA places many requirements on the manuscripts submitted for contests, for example requiring all manuscripts to use APA for style and references. If students do not use APA formatting or execute it effectively they will loose points or receive no points for that section of the grading. While the qualifying contests in the FFA require that students use APA formatting, many open public speaking contests require MLA formatting when registering manuscripts. This leads to the most competitive students in the public speaking circle either writing multiple versions of their speeches with appropriate formatting or, as I did, constantly revising the…

After choosing a video, I sat down to start my research on the library databases. I looked up multiple different search strings and more thoroughly read through the sources that I was choosing. Next, I picked important and relevant quotes that I wanted to base parts of my paper around. That was easy and fun until the intimidation set in that I was about to start my very first APA style paper. After writing my introduction, I felt slightly more comfortable about it and ended up truly enjoying the technique and organization of the APA style.…

I chose Chapter 23 “Using Source Material” in Writing: 10 Core Concepts. “Using Source Material” is important and useful information on how to use other sources in your writing effectively. Chapter 23 gives examples for how to: include enough information to back up your ideas, but not so much information that it covers up what you want to say. In addition, it gives tips for how to incorporate it into your writing. Robert P. Yagelski argues that “The challenge for many students is resisting the tendency to rely too heavily on source material so that it doesn’t take over the student’s own writing” (743).…

English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…
