I’m uncomfortable with doing my research because I was told that I could go and look up any websites and quote from it. It is time-consuming to find the right articles for my research. There was so many websites popping up about people opinions and I don’t even know if they are credibility or not. I used to do all of my research by going to website and it is not helpful at all. MLA formatting is confusing to me when ever the research is involved and I’m not familiar with it at all. I struggle with putting the proper form and style of the books, articles, websites, and newspapers. The only thing I have mastered is works cited formatting. These are the questions I would like to know and keep it with me for next year to come. How

Chicago Style is different from MLA, but it is also similar to MLA in some aspects. One way that Chicago Style is different from MLA is the rule, for Chicago Style, that states when one cites the same source and page number(s) from a single source two or more times, the corresponding note should use the word “Ibid,” the latin word for ibidem, which means “in the same place.” It also states that if one uses the same source but a different page number, the corresponding note should use “Ibid,” followed by a comma and the new page number(s). Another way that Chicago Style is different from MLA is the rule that says one should include a note, endnote or footnote, each time you use a source, whether through a direct quote or through a paraphrase…

After reading and thinking carefully about the Unit 2 Case Study, I would rate the four characters in this way: Responsibility for Reggie's failing grade ***************************************** Reggie - 1 (most responsible) Arnie - 2 Sally - 3 Prof. Lovelit - 4 (least responsible) In my view, Reggie is most responsible for his own failing grade, due to his decision to: 1) not do the homework (reading), and 2) willfully take the essay from the internet and plagiarize. Arnie is number two on my list (in Reggie's failing grade), not because he also plagiarized, but because he was complicit in allowing his classmate to plagiarize. Arnie's response should have been to strongly remind a fellow student that plagiarism will only lead to a failing…

Reading: I have only used Purdue OWL as an APA or MLA writing guide. I did not realize it was also a resource to improve on one’s writing technique. Learning to write paragraphs using the PREP Method and completing assignments that have a word limit, has increased my awareness of my tendency to write very wordy paragraphs. Purdue OWL has a section specifically related to writing with conciseness.…

Pro Point Two, by having set standards on format, students are able to learns skills such implementing citations and research into their writing. The Texas FFA places many requirements on the manuscripts submitted for contests, for example requiring all manuscripts to use APA for style and references. If students do not use APA formatting or execute it effectively they will loose points or receive no points for that section of the grading. While the qualifying contests in the FFA require that students use APA formatting, many open public speaking contests require MLA formatting when registering manuscripts. This leads to the most competitive students in the public speaking circle either writing multiple versions of their speeches with appropriate formatting or, as I did, constantly revising the…

Over 15 years ago, Robert Nash (2011) developed a new academic writing style called Scholarly Personal Narrative (SPN). For the first time in academics the unacceptable use of the ‘subjective I [me]’was acceptable in scholarly writing. Before SPN only the ‘objective they [we]’ was appropriate for research because scholars believed that only experts could support an agreeable or disagreeable topic. Nash (2011) wanted SPN to become, “a respectable research genre in higher education, particularly in the professional schools” (p. 4), so he wrote his first book, Liberating Scholarly Writing: The Power of Personal Narrative (2004).…

The first step leads me into this new world is that I have to do research about my topic before and during the composition of my paper instead of just writing on my own. I had little experience of doing research. In wiring 39A, I learned how to write in detail in order persuade and engaging my audiences along. In wiring 39B, I had to use my imagination to finish a movie script about LA noir film. All the Academic English I have taken previously have nothing to do with research.…

As an academic writer throughout the years, I have found that my scholastic persona has grown and evolved over the years. As I continue into my second year at Capella, I have found that my scholastic persona has become strong, consistent and determined. My persona is strong because I have overcome many fears associated with completing a degree online. I have found myself to become more confident in myself by connecting with classmates and professors virtually. The consistency in my work has always been good, but recently it has improved due to the feedback received within the Doctorate of Social Work program.…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…
