With this type of lifestyle, parents arrive home late and dinners are typically not cooked from scratch, but rather, are picked up on the way home or thrown together quickly. Households with children must deal with even more issues such as after school activities, daily homework, sporting events, and other social events which contributes to an unhealthy lifestyle due to lack of time. However, in my opinion, my community can adopt at least some of the habits practiced by Blue Zones, such as including physical activity throughout the day. For example, parents can take the stairs instead of the elevators while at work or they can take a long walk at lunch instead of sitting at their computers. Further, in Buettner’s lecture, he refers to the Framingham studies and agrees that having overweight friends can lead to you being overweight, which I am in disagreement. Buettner writes, “Your friends are long-term adventures, and therefore, perhaps the most significant thing you can do to add more years to your life, and life to your years.” In making this comment, Buettner urges us to be friends with healthier people, for the reason that having overweight friends will make you overweight as well. I do not believe this habit is very likely to happen in my community. I know
