The First World War began with the declaration of war on Serbia by the Austro-Hungarian Empire on July 28, 1914. On August 4th, the same day Germany declared war against Britain, President Wilson declared the United States’ neutrality. The United States was morally, economically and politically justified in entering the first world war because Germany was killing innocent people, international trading rights, and “The Zimmerman Telegram” that was sent to Mexico from Germany.
The United States was justified in entering the first world war against Germany morally, because Germany was attacking innocent people. The British passenger ship, Lusitania was torpedo by U-boat of Germany on May 7, 1915. It killed approximately 1,195 passengers on the ship and 123 were Americans. President Wilson, originally, wanted an apology from Germany and not to fight back. However, former President Theodore Roosevelt disagreed with President Wilson. Author Zimmerman, a german foreign minister, tried to send out a telegram to Mexico to join them to ally against the United States. This telegram was called “The Zimmerman Telegram”. This was Intercepted by the British and then published all over America in the newspaper. Which pushed America into a closer war against Germany. In "The Zimmerman Telegram," (1917), Zimmerman states, “In the event of this not succeeding, we make Mexico a proposal or alliance on the following basis: make war together, make peace together, generous financial support and an understanding on our part that Mexico is to reconquer the lost territory in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.” Germany lied about wanting America to stay a neutral country so by doing so they asked for Mexico’s help and offering them many
