It seems as if Fareed Zakaria is advocating against a US lead invasion of other countries, and showing how our current foreign policy strategy can actually create terrorists. This would be called a “light footprint strategy” and would involve special operations and covert intelligence. As we learned about in Iraq, when the United States sends in troop to Muslim countries, groups such as Al Qaeda benefited due to new radicalization.
4). I completely agree with Fareed's statements on our foreign policy. I believe that with all of the military invasions, the instability is even greater. We need to implement a more light footprint strategy in the region. Also, I agree with his statement that we need to actually control/rule the areas where these former groups were in, or another group will take advantage and seize it. We have the advantage in areas such as intelligence, airstrikes and drones, and counterterrorism measures that can be more effective than sending in ground troops.
5). US foreign policymakers can see the effects the Iraq and the Afghanistan war had on the region when deciding whether or not to intervene in Syria. There are things other than a full out US fledge invasion such as intelligence and drone strikes which could be more beneficial than an invasion.
