The War of 1812, otherwise known as " The second war for independence" began after the American Revolution. Although the events that occured esentially created the well known anthem,The Star Spangled Banner, the War is one of the smaller known historic wars. The Americans started The War of 1812. There had been a lot of tension between the two powers involved, Britain and the United States. There were numerous reasons the Americans had to drive them to the break of war. Some main reasons included,the embargo policies, impressments, and the expansionist goal of the War Hawks . United States took this act of war as a chance to gain patrotism and power.

When new congress met in 1811 many members of the War Hawks had taken over key positions,this helped influence the direction of congressional debates.The War Hawkes allowed support for the war and assisted in the financial stability for the war and more. Most of congress though hoping not for war felt confident that Britain would refuse war if they thought the Americans were more serious about their action. The British could not possibly handle a war with the United States while still involved in the Napoleonic Wars. The War Hawks were the instigators, they wanted the fight because they were confident in their ability.They 're goal was to end British impressments and hopefully legalize attacks on the Indians whom they thought were being supported by the British.The expansionist where looking to inhabit Canada and Florida.That is when Congress declared war on Great Britain on June 18, 1812. After America discovered how much they were not prepared for the war,with the Battle of Queenstown Heights and Detroit,they withdrew forces from Lake Champlain in November. In 1813 America made attempt to attack Canada which again, were unsucessful attacks. When Oliver Perry 's fleet wrecked the British fleet on Lake Erie the Americans gained control of Detroit.
