After researching UCD Sport & Fitness gym and pool department it is evident that each department is ran completely separate and employees are not experiencing the same opportunities. For example the gym department recruits employees from its very own fitness courses. Furthermore, the gym develops these employees through a variety of training programs to enhance their skills, increase their performance and retain the talented individuals. One of the main objectives in UCD Sport & Fitness is to recruit, train and develop key individuals, while creating opportunities for these talented employees. Latif (2012) argues that the training will be a powerful factor in shaping the employees attitude towards the workplace. It will also increase motivation and job satisfaction with possible career development and movement within the organisation, which will eventually lead to increased productivity and performance.
From the employee survey some responses highlighted a keen interest in working in other departments, so within each department there needs to be allowances for a greater level of cross training which will improve relations and interdepartmental

These training programs already exist within UCD Sport & Fitness and the organisation may benefit by offering employees these courses for free or a discounted prices. According to Stadler (2011) organisations must implement the best practices for training and development to avoid the common pitfalls like developing an individual and promoting them into a critical position which is not suitable for the employee which could impact the organisations performance. There is possible career paths, and each should be formalised for staff in the employee booklet so it is clear what opportunities are available or not as the case may
