He realized that it is imperative to educate people about how to properly eat and exercise. Moreover, he understood that most people need to exercise, but often times refrain from doing so, or they easily give up, due to the lack of proper training programs available. Richardson acknowledged it was time to do something. It was time to revolutionize the fitness industry.
Upon his return to the Houston area, Richardson soon realized that Houstonians were tired of the same old workout routines, or the fitness clubs that specialize in just one type of classes; for example, yoga studios, CrossFit clubs, Zumba studios, etc. He wanted to enter this market with a strong and unique strategy, a “blue ocean strategy.”
According to the class lecture, a blue ocean strategy is a strategy chosen by a company that wants to enter a new market with an innovating technology. The opportunities for the chosen market to expand and grow are vast as the oceans themselves. For Richardson, it meant that he had limitless opportunities to redefine the fitness industry by creating a new and innovating workout concept, the Define body & mind

Only highly qualified and trained instructors make the exclusive staff at this very trendy company composed of four studios in the Houston greater area and several franchise locations. For the four studio locations in the greater Houston area, the process of training instructors is handled by Henry Richardson, CEO and founder. Because the training program is developed in a way that will challenge the instructor trainee’s own fitness level, it could take anywhere from three to twelve weeks for any participant to finish the program. The trainee will successfully graduate the program once he or she is able to teach and handle a class on his/her own with Henry, and other instructors, as his/her audience. Despite the fact that the process of hiring and training personnel is different for the franchises, same standard levels of quality, service, and commitment have to meet

Paid to Play In college, athletes do a lot of work, both for their class and for their team. As a college student, money is a big issue too. College athletes have the problem where they do not get paid to play the sport. This is a big problem because the athletes in college do the same work as pros in the league and put their bodies on the line. For example, in the National Collegiate Athletic Association or the NCAA, athletes have to train hard every day, and play games every day and they do not get paid for it, while the NBA does:…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

Excessive exercising is one of the most common activities that affects everyday function. Such distortions in function can include the thought process of "If I do not work out one day, my entire routine has been ruined”, or catastrophizing "If I do not work out one day, I will turn into a ball of fat" or the necessity to workout constantly "I must work out every day to be worthwhile" and personalization "I know that guy over there is talking about how puny I am" (Grieve et al., 2009, pg. 310). Some men become so preoccupied with muscle development that it can result in the loss of a job, missed social events and injury because of the intensity and frequency of fitness (Mosley, 2009, pg. 193). In some cases, men will even avoid activities such as going to the beach, a swimming pool or a locker room because they are fixated on their “lack” of a muscular appearance (Kanayama & Pope Jr., 2011, pg. 96). The body builder interviewee discussed earlier validates these restrictions on normal life.…

In society, every person has a set of routines in which they carry out. Commonly, many people deem their everyday routines as mundane because they perform them on a daily basis. What people tend to be oblivious of is that most of their daily routines are constructed by society, every action one takes throughout their day is something they were taught by society. For example, the act of brushing one’s teeth or washing one’s hands after using the bathroom, are activities one is taught by their parents, and they were taught by professionals. We acquire all our knowledge from society and society controls what we learn.…
