No matter what type of work someone does, rather it is in industry, services or some other employment, there will always be leaders and followers. However, there are good and bad leaders, and there are good and bad followers. Most people, if not everyone, have encountered and can think of an example for both types of followers and leaders. A great leader is one that can be described as having servant leadership and also has the ability to show great followership when they are being led by others. Servant leadership and followership coincide in so many ways. They both include the characteristic of humility, the ability to develop others, and the result of achievement.

If someone thinks of a person they have met before that they consider to be a good leader, one of their characteristics is probably humility. Humility can be one of the toughest character traits to come by and acquire. For a lot of people, it goes against their natural being and what the world promotes in order to be successful. Humility is the ability for one to think less of themselves and more about the others around them. It involves putting others before themselves. In both areas, it is beneficial to develop others, because it leads to an overall better team and team environment. It leads to the team being more effective, better able to accomplish tasks, and reach goals. It also goes against being self-centered or focused. The environment will be less stressful and more productive. Cross-training and teaching others shows that one genuinely cares about the other and making that individual better. One can do this as a leader or a follower. The impact of developing others is that they will be more helpful and productive on future teams and in life in general.
