1. “Everything a supervisor does involve communicating.” Build an argument to support this statement.
Communication is an important part of a supervisor’s job and often taken for granted. Think about it, almost all they do notes for good communications. When they select a new employee, good communication skills aid them to pick the best individual and make certain the individual they selected to hire knows what the job involves. When they’re training, coaching, or evaluating an employee, they need to be clear about expectations and sensitive in dealing with problem areas. When is a written communication preferable to an oral one? When is it not preferred? When a message is intended to be official, if it has long-term effects, or if it is highly complex, a person will want to deliver it in written form. It is not preferred when you want to convey quick information. When you want to build trust and create a climate of openness and support for employees.
4. Which type of communication method do you prefer to use at work when sending a message to someone else? Why? Do you have the same preference when messages are being sent to you? Explain.
I like to use written and oral messaging at work, but what I’m in the need of determining which one I use. For example: If I want to take a few days of leave time. I will email requesting to take those specific days off. I would do it this way because my boss could forget that I asked to take those days off, and it will be in writing. If I get a disgruntled customer on the phone that says he/she has called several times, and their problem resolved. I will get their contact information, try to get their problem solved, and then call them back versus emailing them to tell them their problem was solved. I will call them back because I want them to know as quickly as possible that their problem resolved. It will be a win-win situation! But if cohesiveness is important, and performance norms are low productivity low. And where cohesiveness and performance-related norms are both low, productivity will tend to fall into the low to moderate range.
4. Why can’t formal systems be designed to eliminate the need for informal groups?
Formal systems can’t be designed to eliminate the need for informal groups since are used to fill gaps that exist in the formal system.
5. Explain the increasing popularity of teams.
Teams are increasingly becoming the prime around which work is being designed because they typically exceed persons when the responsibility being done require multiple skills, judgment, and experience.

6. Compare a pseudo team with a real team.
The pseudo team is a product of synergy. This team is not a team because it doesn’t focus on collective performance, and members have no interest in shaping common purpose. A real team is an ultimate goal. A real team is a unit with a set of common characteristics that lead to consistently high performance.
7. What skills do all teams need to perform effectively?
