In our society more and more people are using their phones instead of communication face to face. People would rather send a text than talk to someone on the phone. Some people say that how we communicate doesn’t affect us. Whether we send a text, call, FaceTime, Skype, or talk in person. They would say that as long as communication takes place that it shouldn’t affect us. But many experts would disagree. (Irvine, 1) “In most extreme cases, she’s noticed that more students don’t look her in the eye and have trouble with the basics of direct conversation--habits that, she says, will not serve them as well as the enter a world where many of their elders still expect an in-person conversation, or at the very least a phone call.” (Irvine, 1) Janet Sternberg conducted her studies at Fordham University over the past few years. She has found that because of technology some people can no longer communicate adequately in person. She believes that because of this they will not be able to communicate with older generations as well because they are more accustomed to face to face communication. As helpful as technology is, it does pull us apart from our in person communication. It hurts our relationships that we have with people.
