Technology and Happiness Individuals can achieve many goals in their life as long as they work hard except happiness. Happiness is difficult to achieve since it can not only rely on hard working. Communication is the basic step for people to live in the society. Gilbert thinks that people need communication because “ One of the benefits of being a social and linguistic animal is that we can capitalize on the experiences of others rather than trying to figure everything out for ourselves”(211). Individuals all need socialize and communicate with others to get themselves developed. They can learn lots of knowledge and experiences to be succeed and to be happy. Communication is the chance for people to get promotion. Although sometimes, the communication may lead them to the wrong way. As long as people have their belief, the communication still can be the surrogate to the happiness. Technology also is a good way that offer people to have a effective communication. Restak thinks that “ (w)ith the cell phone, that process has become even more intimate. Time, distance, night, and day-the rules of the natural and physical world-cease to be limiting factors”(419).Technology can build the close relationship with others because it has no limit factors for people to communicate. Super replicators represent individuals’ beliefs which can bring people happiness. Individuals think that money equals to the happiness. Thus, people work hard and desire to get the higher position to make money and be wealthy.However, money do not means happiness. Sometimes money is useless pile of paper. However, Adam Smith, the father of modern economics thinks that “If the only if people hold this false belief will they do enough producing, procuring, and consuming to sustain.”( Gilbert, 215). Although money equals to the happiness is the inaccurate super replicator, individuals do not care the reality of this idea. Instead, they use it as the motivation to encourage themselves to work on.
