The Wedge Case

The Wedge first started operations in the basement of an apartment in south Minneapolis. As the business evolved, it attracted members and have become one of the most successful co-op grocery store in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. One of the many reasons which led them to become so successful is the community and the leadership team over the years. The Wedge serves mainly the neighborhood in the south Minneapolis area, but they have members from all over the Twin Cities metropolitan area. With over 16,000 members, they are the fastest growing co-op grocery store. Members guide the direction of the business by having the right to vote and elect the board of directors. In late 2012, Josh Resnik was elected as the CEO and is still currently the CEO of The Wedge. Josh has a rich background in the food industry as he had spent many years at General Mills, a large manufacture and marketer of consumer foods, as a Marketing manager and director. After 10 plus years at General Mills, he severed as the CEO for a small company that sells bison meat., Wild Idea Buffalo. With his experience, Josh is the ideal CEO to align the business with its mission state, to support local producers and farmers.

They only have one operating store. With the lack of number of stores, customers prefer to not drive a long way to buy their grocery when they can buy it at a closer grocery store and this can cause missed sales opportunity. Addition to only having one operational store, the current store location is located in a busy part of town.
