19 December 2014 According to the Brady Campaign, over 18,000 American children and teens die yearly from gun violence with no one to stand up for them. More than 100,000 people in America are shot in murders, suicides, or by civilian interventions by usage of legal weapons. The United States needs stricter gun laws because most massacres utilize legal weaponry. For example, many people died due to easy access to gun weapons and killed the innocence of many young children who witnessed their friends’ deaths in the Adam Lanza incident where he obtained the guns his mother owned and used it against her and the school she volunteered at. According to “10 Reasons Why We Need Gun Control”, “Instead, this research by Mother Jones shows that, of those sixty-two shootings, forty-nine were perpetrated using legal weapons.” This is not only one case of legal weapons being used in criminal ways, but forty-nine cases of these massacres. Of those forty-nine cases one was incredibly bloody. According to the Washington Post, “In Oregon, Jacob Tyler Roberts entered a mall holding a semi-automatic rifle and yelling ‘I am the shooter.’” He killed two people and seriously injured a third by shooting a fifteen year old on the side of her chest. Luckily, she survived. Half of all mass shooters used an assault weapon or a military weapon turned into a civilian weapon.
