Now that I have described the technical aspect of the school system, I will describe the performance of Finnish students after implementing this system. Finland was not usually on any list for having the topic educational system. Their ranking was seen as average when there were “five different international mathematics or science assessments between 1962 and 1999” (OECD, 2011, p. 118). Rather showing a dramatic increase, they slowly started improving in their ranking and proved that their education system had become the best of the world, according to the standard of PISA. PISA is an “international survey which aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students” (OECD, 2012) provided by The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, 2015). Students all around the world will take an exam which evaluates their level of skill and knowledge in reading, mathematics and skill. They began getting the top spot in the PISA results starting the year 2000 and unlike various other countries, they showed little variance, meaning on average, a lot more students were getting higher grades throughout the country rather than having students from a particular school perform good or poor (Aho et al, 2006).
