The Role of Water for Humanity Water has a very important role in the human body. Water contains an important element that people breathe called oxygen. Water can give the body a very refreshing drink while also keeping the body from going into a state of dehydration. “Dehydration is a condition that occurs when the loss of body fluids, mostly water, exceeds the amount that is taken in,” (www.webmd.com). The body can lose water through natural processes such as breathing and using the bathroom. Since the body is losing water everyday it is very important that a person restores the amount needed each and every day. The human body must try and remain the same in the amount of water it takes in every day. It is said that an average person needs eight cups of water daily, but doctors believe that to be a myth. Technically there is no real measure of how much you should drink each day. (www.mayoclinic.org). It is important to note that the body is mostly made up of water and is mostly contained inside cells. The body and the amount of water that remains in it can vary in the body’s life stages. For example, a newborn has more water than an elderly person. Also the more muscle the on body, the more water it can hold. On the opposite end the more fat in the body, the less water the body contains (www.nestle-waters.com). No matter how much water a person drinks it is important that they know water is important.
