What is employee Surveillance? Is it against employee’s privacy? Does your boss have the right to track you or your device while you are on the clock? What is data mining? Who collects and keeps our personal info? Is our search on Google in danger of being leaked? Are our phone calls being spied on by the National Security Agency [NSA]? When we have a person come to our house to repair or deliver something the person driving usually gives us an exact time that they are going to be there. I have also heard about tracking devices company-owned cars that track employee’s movement in the car. For many years now have I heard about data breeches happening where people’s personal information such as their social security number and credit card have been stolen. I chose employee surrivalnce and data mining because I have heard many positives and negatives things about them. I will explore the positive and negatives of employee surveillance and data mining technologies. Employee surveillance means to “use various methods of workplace surveillance to gather information about employee’s activities (What is, 2014). For example, according to Issues and controversies (2014) some people like the NSA because their only motive for collecting people’s information such as their phone calls and Internet searches is because they want to combat terrorism. Supporters also argue that anything on the Internet is public anyway and if you don’t want there then don’t put it on the Internet. (Issues and Controversies, 2014). Supporters also argue that the reports of the NSA are exaggerated and that they are only there to combat terrorism.
