Many of the sources appeal to the emotions of people by instilling fear in the audience. They wanted to make the consumer realize that they are threatening their various relationships with loved ones by drinking. In many ads, there are scenes of women leaving their husbands because of their excessive alcohol consumption. This is an attempt at a wake-up call to these men that their lives will fall apart if they continue their behavior. As seen in slide ten, not only will they lose their wives, but they will also lose the respect of all women. The women refuse to put up with this behavior to also protect their children. In countless ads, there are scenes of young children saying “vote dry” or asking for help to save their family. These ads attempt to sway the consumer emotionally away from drinking.

In slide six, there is a boy and a girl stand holding the American flag with a slogan that says, “The American issue.” This ad attempts to appeal to the audience’s sympathy for children while also presenting a national problem: this is America’s issue and it needs to be solved by you, the American people. In slide eleven, a soldier presents the question, “Will you back me? Or back booze?” In an attempt to persuade people to vote for temperance, the source tries to appeal to one’s support and sympathy for a soldier.
