The Person-Centred Approach was developed from the work of the psychologist Carl Rogers (1902 – 1987). It aims to promote independence and focus on the individual and not the individual’s condition or illness (J Mckibbin, 2008, p. 25). The Care Act 2014 make provision to reform the law relating to care and support for adults and carers in terms of how their care is being handled (Legislation.Gov.UK, 2014, pp. 9-12). This is an effective way to amend the system in care that is proven not working and add into place a better standard that will benefit the healthcare system.
Commissions or agencies like the CQC will draft regulations that will make sure that it will be implemented accordingly by the service provider. The Care and Support (Eligibility Criteria) Regulations (2014) is an example of a regulation that specify the eligibility criteria for the purposes of the said Act. After the regulations comes the drafting of the code of practice that the health professional will use as the guidance to deliver their services of care. These is where the service provider will base their own policies and procedures that will be use by their healthcare professionals to make sure that they meet the standard required by law. The Person-Centred Care Regulation of the CQC changes the code of practice of the healthcare providers and professionals. The care was shifted from a direct and non-direct approach to a more person-centred care that is unique for everyone. This promotes empowerment of service users and values their individual uniqueness when planning for their care. Due to these changes, the code of conduct of the healthcare professionals adapt to those changes, as a healthcare worker, I have the duty of care and should give the service users the confidence that they will be treated with dignity, respect and compassion
