Philanthropic organizations have existed for centuries and their main purpose is to tackle a specific sort of problem at its root. They are also often referred to as charitable foundations since they rely mainly on donations for them being able to provide for assistance or protection against a specific issue, such as world hunger, cancer, ending poverty in third world countries, etc. Out of all these types of organizations, if I had to choose, I would choose an organization that is fighting to end a widespread illness such as cancer. Specifically, I would choose to donate to the American Cancer Society. Their purpose is to fund and conduct research related to cancer, support patients with cancer, and spread awareness about cancer.…
By 1955, Mr. Thomas and the Memphis business leaders began local fundraising efforts. Mr. Thomas also wanted to get the word out across the country about what he was doing, so he enlisted the support of everyone he could. Often, Mr. Thomas and his wife would crisscross the United States, speaking to any groups that would listen about his dream to build St. Jude Children’s Research…
Before the end of the late spring, he had been decided for the group that would say/argue at the national wheelchair b-ball titles; the Link Autos won the national title, the first of three titles Fox would win with the group. Tired of the unforgiving Winnipeg winters, Rolly moved (starting with one place then onto the next) to Vancouver, English Columbia, in 1966. Not long after losing his right leg to growth, Fox chose to keep running crosswise over Canada to raise (thinking about something) and cash for tumor research. Early Life Terry Fox was the second of four kids (already decided beforehand to happen) to Betty and Rolly Fox, a switchman with the Canadian National Railroad. Terrance Stanley (Terry) Fox, CC, OBC, competitor, human…

We were inspired by the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, helping ill children and giving them a chance at a better life. Elizabeth was in the UCSF Children's Hospital in 1st grade, so it meant a lot to us to donate the money. They treat everyone so nicely, and give all the patients gifts during the holidays. The doctors and nurses are always supportive, and helped Elizabeth feel comfortable.…

Thus the founding of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by Danny Thomas in 1962 still plays an important role in healthcare even fifty-five years later as it continues to find ways to cure cancer. During the 1950’s Danny Thomas wanted nothing more than to become a famous actor;…
It is a pleasure and an amazing opportunity to talk about The St. Jude Children Research Hospital. The story about how the hospital started is quite interesting, and the main branch is in Memphis TN. However, it has affiliate clinics nationally and internationally as well. Moreover, the St. Jude Children hospital has highly regarded compliance and ethics, and it is supported and accredited by the Better Business Bureau. Our stated purpose is "to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic disease through research and treatment while honoring the memory and heritage of our founder, Danny Thomas, that no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay."…
My focus for this report is to explain the role of skeletal muscles in the body and a specific disease that can come from it, if not functioning properly. It is well known that the main function of the muscular system is to generate movement. The muscles work together to move the body and organs, while also maintaining posture and body temperature. There are three types of muscle tissue; skeletal, cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscle is the most common of the three, since it’s connected to bone all throughout our bodies.…

The brain is one if not the most important organ in our body. It controls the vital functions of the body including speech, thoughts, memory, vision, breathing, movement and more. Any amount of swelling, bacteria, or abnormal growth in the brain could lead to a life threatening illness. An abnormal growth, such as a tumor impedes on different functions depending on where that tumor lies within the brain.…
Low risk group patients have higher than a ninety-five percent chance of surviving at least five years post-diagnosis. The five-year survival rate for intermediate risk group children is between ninety and ninety-five percent. The five-year survival rate significantly drops to forty to fifty percent for patients categorized as high risk. Therefore, children diagnosed at an earlier stage have better survival rates but approximately two-thirds of neuroblastoma patients are not diagnosed until the cancer has spread throughout the body, specifically the lymph nodes. Diagnosis of neuroblastoma usually occurs around one to two years old.…
