The Problem Of Active Listening

The organizational behavior problem is that a group of people does not communicate face to face well with each other. The group consist of four people, one man and three women. The man and one of the women have education degrees. All of the group members are close in age. The company this group works for, specializes in child care at a public elementary school. The group is working with children in fourth and fifth grade.There is one big group of staff divided into smaller groups to take care of the different grade levels. There is about four to five adults with a grade level from first to fifth grade. The supervisor has a schedule made up of where each group goes with the children. The group should be active listening when listening to other people speak. When people are not listening to others speak they feel disrespected. Active listening includes sensing which means no interrupting and they are motivated to listen to the speaker (McShane & Young, 2013, p. 275). The next part of active listening is evaluating what the speaker is saying by understanding the speaker, evaluating the message, and remembering the message(McShane & Young, 2013, p. 275) . The last part of active listening is showing interest in the speaker and rephrase the speaker 's message(McShane & Young, 2013, p. 275).
An example of active listening is one person in the group making suggestion about an activity to do with the children. The three people listening should not be interrupting the speaker and seem interested in what the speaker has to say. The group members can rephrase what the speaker said and clarify any misunderstanding. The listeners can ask questions to the speaker so the speaker knows they were

Gender differences can cause communication conflict in the workplace. Women are more sensitive to nonverbal cues (McShane & Young, 2013, p. 274). Women pick up details during a conversation and might take the little things the wrong way. Men are more assertive when communicating(McShane & Young, 2013, p. 274). The man in the group is more assertive than the women. The man in the group can think about what he is going to say and the tone he is going to say it in before he speaks.
