In the United States, there has been a rise in the number of obese individuals. Fast food and the lack of exercise contribute to increasing obesity in the nation. Obesity is a serious problem because it links to several long-term health conditions, premature death, and illness. The rate of obesity problem which results in health problem, in America has increased because of widespread consumption of fast food, large food portions, unbalanced diet, and reduction of exercise.

Food portions in America 's restaurants have doubled or tripled over the last 20 years. The size of a bagel, soda, burger, popcorn, is getting bigger. Americans have gotten used to eat bigger plates of food. A restaurant meal serving can often feed two or more people. Also this family size of chips, popcorn, cookies, the large soda drinks, and other food makes people eat more and get used to it. Third common cause of obesity is the unbalanced diet. Because of the busy lifestyle that Americans have, they maybe skip a meal. Surprisingly, skipping meals like breakfast or lunch leads to weight gain.
