Pretend you’re in a store, and you get bored so you look around and grab a magazine from the shelf, and what’s the first thing you see? A beautiful woman in the front cover with no flaws at all. This is where everyone starts to believe that that’s the way you should look and that’s the perfect image for a female or male. Now, do you believe those magazine models are actually perfect? Well, they’re not. All these magazines and AD’s photoshop every single model or celebrity to make them look impeccable. Photoshopped images have made many females and males feel inadequate about their own look, especially when they view them all around in magazines, AD’s, commercials, etc. These edited images make the model or celebrity look like dehumanized barbies with “perfect” bodies. People may say, “well they do this to help others get healthy and actually work out,” but even if people do get healthy, they can’t look like the photoshopped model with the perfect body. According to the “Women’s Self-Esteem Affected by Idealized Female Images…,” the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, show that 70 percent of girls said magazine images influence their ideals of a …show more content…
According to the article, “What Causes an Eating Disorder,” photoshop and airbrushing have further skewed our perception of attainable beauty standards. Many women have eating disorders and have starved themselves to look like the new magnificent looking celebrities. In the article, “More girls are starving themselves to look thin,” it shows that teenage girls are starving themselves to lose weight. Teenage girls do this because they want to look like those models that you see in the front cover of a magazine.
