A nurse’s role and responsibility is to be a critical thinker, play a supporting role to patients and their families, have respect for patients, be a motivator, educator, be able to communicate with patients and other healthcare providers, be a team player, be able to perform a physical examination, administrate medication and gather family and medical history. The role and responsibilities of a paramedic differs from other healthcare professionals as they are usually in a pre-hospital setting and more than not an emergency situation which means they need to be able to act quickly and efficiently in different situations, provide immediate medical attention, examine patients, give appropriate medication and be a team player as paramedics will work with other emergency teams. Doctors play and important role as well in the healthcare system as they have to make an accurate diagnosis, make decisions which also come under the responsibility of being a leader and showing leadership to healthcare providers; and Doctors need to stay up to date with new and improved medical information. It allows healthcare providers to learn from each other in different situations and they are able to observe, help and ask each other questions. All healthcare providers have responsibilities with inter-professional practice, some responsibilities include gathering correct and accurate information from the patient and other healthcare providers, giving the correct information to patients and other health care providers. Other roles include giving and receiving information from patient’s families or carers. If inter-professional practice was not used in the healthcare system it wouldn’t be an efficient system for the patient, there wouldn’t be the chance to learn from one another as healthcare providers, the health and wellbeing of the patient wouldn’t be as accurate if there were not inter-professional practice. It would be harder for healthcare providers to gain rapport and consent from the patient, as well as gaining information from colleagues and other healthcare providers. Inter-professional practice is a vital role in every healthcare system as it allows greater communication and therefore better treatment between all healthcare providers.
