Education Should Not Be Taught

From the age of 4 years to 18 years, and then years beyond that, children learn how to read, write, think, and make solutions to problems. The way it is taught varies around the world, and although some may claim they have the best education system, they may not be always right. Education for students is to give them the knowledge so that they can use it on later in life. But somethings just cannot be taught. Whether because there is no answers, or just because it is censored and not taught.. Students are not being exposed to the whole story. They are usually taught only one perspective and not the other. Things deemed to graphics are left out of the curriculum. To remedy this, schools should either only present age-appropriate material and …show more content…
Teachers sometimes think that some materials are just to graphic or the topic might be a bit too sensitive. Some topics like slavery comes out as always bad in history classes, and it is. But sometimes the other side of it is not taught.. Like how slavery essentially helped build up the economy. As Aristotle said, “ Give a boy accurate perceptions. Teach him the difference between the similar and the same. Make him call things by their right names. Pardon in him no blunder. Then he will give you solid satisfaction as long as he lives” (103). Teaching things the way it is and giving the student all the information and facts from both sides, helps the students learn and better understand the entire topic, not just one point of view. Having all the information out, no matter how graphic or sensitive it is, will only let the student see from a different eye. Instead of being narrow minded, they can now see both sides of the argument. Also the way teachers teach things, and the ideas presented to them, directly influences them later in life. “The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated” (Baldwin 123). After a student has finished their education and have started their jobs, they will use all they learn to help them succeed. If only one side of a topic is shown, then they essentially lack the ability to make their own decision, being open minded and understand that their are always two sides to a

The use of censorship in society over time has become overused and the factors that should be used to determine censorship have become overlooked. Censoring has multiple benefits and is a great concept, however it is often taken to the extremes by the government, teachers, school boards and parents. Censorship should be based on possible issues, content and maturity of the audience. In the novel F451, Ray Bradbury composes a futuristic society where censorship is key and the government as well as society censors the idea of books and the knowledge within them. The factors that should be used to evaluate whether or not censorship should be used are not “Montag, take my word for it, I’ve had to read a few in my time, to know what I was about,…

Teaching is an integral part of most species’ existence. It ranges from the primitive forms of teaching survival, to the most advanced teachings at universities. It has increasingly been challenged, questioned, and modified due to the many controversial views it has conjured up. The text, “On the Uses of a Liberal Education: As Lite Entertainment for Bored College Students”, by Mark Edmundson, is about how, in his opinion, society, educational institutions, and the students themselves, all prevent the students from being original, unique, and succeeding in class. The second text, “Lies My Teacher Told Me:…

Education is a subject that is very simple, yet quite complex at the same time. Most people when they think of the word education would picture a student at a desk and the teacher teaching them. In reality education is so much more than a lecture from the teacher to the student because education is constantly being developed throughout a person’s everyday life. Two stories, “Allegory of the Cave” by Plato and “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” by Paulo Freire have two very different views on what the best method of education looks like. When comparing the two it is evident that the “problem-posing” method is better way to teach because it involves the students and allows them to fully claim their education.…

Schools, parents, and students can sometimes have conflicting views on what should be in the curriculum. Students want something that is easy to read and is something they will enjoy. Parents own personal views and moral values on topics such as racism, religion, etc. can inhibit a schools planned syllabus. School views can also become an obstacle because some topics; for example religion, sex, etc.; a school might believe do not belong in their institution. A compromise must be met between the parents and schools to enable the best education possible for the students.…

This essay is about banning books, and whether or not the community has the right to control what students read in schools. I believe that the community should say what books students read. I believe this for the following reasons. One reason is that the community is largely made up of the parents of students, and the parents have a considerable amount of power over their children. First, the parents would be concerned that their children were being read disturbing books in school.…

The First Amendment? America, a country that used to be defined by bad asses and strong leader, now is defined by the sensitive and stupid. When and if we have a society built of people afraid of answering the hard questions what will we be? People need to speak their minds and stand up for what they believe in. limiting what and where certain topics can be spoken is very unconstitutional. We need to come together as a country so we never have to deal with that problem; because, if we don’t we could see the end of the first amendment and may end up giving away the rest of our rights.…

Censorship is used in many places, including children’s book, television shows, and also music. It is not necessary because it infringes upon the First Amendment, which is the right to freedom of speech. Censorship is the suppression of information that may be considered inappropriate or vulgar to some people. Censorship is achieved through looking at television, books, films, play and other forms of media and entertainment to control ideas that were projected to be unseemly. Chris Crutcher argues in his article, “How They Do It”, that school systems should not become easily persuaded by the parents’ complaints to censor books that should be a part of the curriculum that their children benefit from due to the fact that the students can relate, learn, and build off of the books that are censored. Crutcher builds his argument throughout his article by including the use of personal anecdotes, pathos, and repetition. Due to the fact that Crutcher includes the use of personal anecdotes, he supports his argument. He builds his argument with the use of personal stories in hope to engage the readers.…

A text that I found to be interesting so far was Himmelfarb’s The New Advocacy and the Old Advocacy was something that I thoroughly enjoy and I had never thought about how the concept could be present in the classroom until reading this selection. During our exploration of the passage, the question of whether or not the classroom could serve as a platform for advocacy. I expressed that if done the right way, beneficial knowledge could be passed from generation to generation. In turn, change could be implemented.…

Since the dawn of the pen and pencil, literature has existed to communicate the human experience. There are countless numbers of books in the world, all of which drastically vary in content, size and quality. Despite all of the disparate traits between them, this drive to relay another’s view on life is shared among all literature. However, there are many individuals that seek to suppress these views by banning books from libraries and schools. This desire to ban and suppress an author’s interpretation could arise from a variety of factors: differing ideological viewpoints, aversion to graphic content, or a distaste of a book’s “offensive” subject matter to name a few.…

Why do the youth hate education and why did I hate it as well? Personally I hated school because, I am lazy and would rather sleep and loaf around all day as my life waste away. All children need is a push and a reason to grind and work hard to get their education. While in school we do not fully understand the blood, sweat, and tears of those who are dead and gone and what they did for us to get where we are today. After they get more education they will better understand the struggle just to eat, and sleep, and learn in the same buildings as another race.…

In his book The Sane Society, Erich Fromm points out that alienation has become an endemic disease of modern capitalism. Fromm defines alienated individual as somebody as “the person who can only experience the outer world photographically, but is out of touch with his inner world”. [Fromm, 1990, p. 207] The opposite of alienation is schizophrenia, that is, when the individual can not experience the outer world objectively, as most people do. For this psychoanalyst, the individual must be in contact with her feelings and at the same time have the capacity to experience the world in its objective-action context.…
