A text that I found to be interesting so far was Himmelfarb’s The New Advocacy and the Old Advocacy was something that I thoroughly enjoy and I had never thought about how the concept could be present in the classroom until reading this selection. During our exploration of the passage, the question of whether or not the classroom could serve as a platform for advocacy. I expressed that if done the right way, beneficial knowledge could be passed from generation to generation. In turn, change could be implemented. Having an educator serve as an advocate could lead to a great amount of change simply because they constantly have the opportunity to reach large numbers of young people. This opportunity is advantageous because advocacy furthers education & the sharing of knowledge is a huge part of the learning world. …show more content…
For example, today we discussed whether or not bringing an inexperienced individual into a particular field could be beneficial for ones who are knowledgeable. While my classmate felt as if it was impossible, I believe that situations like so allow for the discovering of new and fresh perspectives as well as new twists. This goes back to our discussion regarding advocacy in the classroom because we were discussing how it becomes “flawed.” In other words, I believe that the essence of advocacy is poisoned once teachers choose to place their personal bias within the messages they spread to their students. Himmelfarb said that history could never truly be objective and I agree one hundred percent.
