In the beginning of the semester, I was not looking forward to seminar because my past experiences with socratic seminars. I also, do not like public speaking and I knew this would restrict me from fully participating. I knew one of my strengths was being able to evaluate and analysis different texts and ask questions, and was hoping this would help me try to participate. The first class of seminar was very intimidating, but as I got to know people it was so much easier to participate and enlightening to hear other people’s opinion. As a whole class, I liked to ask questions and listen to people’s opinions on certain topics. Especially when, I posed a question and people are able to get into a deeper discussion on what I was trying to clarify. I remember specifically in one reading, “What You Pawn I Will Redeem,” by Sherman Alexie our class discussed the validity of the author. I remember because this was the first time our class made an initial hypothesis to prove or disprove whether the author was a reliable person to tell the story. Also, with this reading I was able to pursue an enriched understand of the text because of our class mentioning validity and the reading was based on a Native American, I brought to light that …show more content…
In the beginning I can say I related to Telemachus, because I was scared to take action in speaking. I later was in the situation of Odyssey, stuck at a place in my mind that I am not able to solve or achieve a sense of peace. At the same time, I can say I was like Penelope waiting for an answer or idea to come, sewing the pieces together and by the next day undoing the handiwork. The fights were the internal struggles of finding what I believe in or whether or not I agreed with anyone’s thoughts or readings. My journey is still not complete because I have three more years to complete, but my ship has set sailed for more critical thinking to

Similar to Odysseus’ treacherous journey home, my odyssey through middle school had its moments of success and defeat, happiness and frustration, and absolute uncertainty. From being adrift on my makeshift raft in a vast sea of sixth graders to my final days in middle school, I have obtained many new traits comparable to Odysseus’. As a new sixth grader, I was optimistic and hopeful of the years to come, analogous to Odysseus’ confidence that he would ultimately return to Ithaca. Through seemingly endless hours of studying, I gained the ability to make sacrifices and prioritize in order to succeed. Odysseus also demonstrated this skill when making decisions and sacrifices in acute situations to benefit as many people as possible.…

The Odyssey has been and will, most likely, continue to be one of the most prevalent examples of a deep character conflict. In the case of the Odyssey, Homer is able to illustrate a vivid picture of two characters who are shown to go head to head with each other on several occasions due to not only their vastly different ideals, but also because of their contrasting strengths and weaknesses. In addition to contrasting in the strengths and weaknesses they possess, both characters also differ in how they obtained their characteristics, by fate or by free will. The first of these characters is Prince Telemachus, son of Odysseus, and a protagonist of the story. Throughout the Odyssey, it becomes clear that Telemachus possesses a strong moral fiber…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

On March 30, 2016, the Kaiser Permanente Learning (KP Learn) department offered a seminar based on the book and educational series by Dr. Steven R Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The seminar was held at the Kaiser Permanente Franklin Medical Office from 8am to 5pm.
