What Is The Reflection Of What You Pawn I Will Redeem

In the beginning of the semester, I was not looking forward to seminar because my past experiences with socratic seminars. I also, do not like public speaking and I knew this would restrict me from fully participating. I knew one of my strengths was being able to evaluate and analysis different texts and ask questions, and was hoping this would help me try to participate. The first class of seminar was very intimidating, but as I got to know people it was so much easier to participate and enlightening to hear other people’s opinion. As a whole class, I liked to ask questions and listen to people’s opinions on certain topics. Especially when, I posed a question and people are able to get into a deeper discussion on what I was trying to clarify. I remember specifically in one reading, “What You Pawn I Will Redeem,” by Sherman Alexie our class discussed the validity of the author. I remember because this was the first time our class made an initial hypothesis to prove or disprove whether the author was a reliable person to tell the story. In the beginning I can say I related to Telemachus, because I was scared to take action in speaking. I later was in the situation of Odyssey, stuck at a place in my mind that I am not able to solve or achieve a sense of peace. At the same time, I can say I was like Penelope waiting for an answer or idea to come, sewing the pieces together and by the next day undoing the handiwork. The fights were the internal struggles of finding what I believe in or whether or not I agreed with anyone’s thoughts or readings.
