Along with knowledge, a manager must have great intuition because they need to make decisions that, not always, can be completely backed by the facts. Intuition, along with knowledge of processes and techniques, is used for problem-solving, whether the problem is with a customer, vendor, supplier, or an employee. They also need this intuition for knowing their employees. In a way, excellent managers become excellent mind readers. Managers look for a deeper understanding to problems that arise and need to be investigated. A manager must have commitment and versatility. Leaders find inspiration in the things they do as well as spread that inspiration to other employees. Leaders become successful because they are passionate about what they do and have a true love and drive for what is to come. Motivation is a key quality the all leaders possess because it helps to inspire and develop a contagious following. Leaders tend to inspire other leaders that may not know they are such. To inspire others, they must believe in that person and what they stand for, which is done by example. True leaders must be innovative and authentic (Bernstein, 2016). Innovation and creativity are not qualities of a business that are good to have anymore; they are keys to survival and success in a volatile world. Challenges cannot be solved by repetition. Rather, leaders must find new, authentic ways. Although flattery comes in the form of imitation, each person has their own experiences and life story. True leaders impart their personal skills and experiences, while also picking up more along the way. Managers control, plan, and organize. They need to be structured, knowledgeable, intuitive, committed, and have good communication skills. Their organization can be dehumanized through giving up certain things so that they can focus on things that will allow them to meet any goals and objectives of the company. Leaders, on the other hand, must be passionate, inspirational, innovative, persistent, accountable, empowering, communicable, and authentic. Leaders create visions, set direction, align people, and motivate employees. So, which one is better? As you can already tell, the most successful organizations employ managers that are also excellent leaders.
