Generally, managers focus on organizing and allocating resources to move towards an organizational goal. Although some activities might fall into both categories, leadership and management are different in many ways. Physicians and health care leaders differ in many ways. Normally, physicians are focused on providing care to patients and following procedures and policies as they are set by government or leaders. Health care leaders are focused on overall policies and conditions of health care industry. Leaders are motivated by their beliefs on making a difference in larger group of people by working towards policy making. Physicians are motivated to save lives and make a difference in individuals that need attention on the individual basis.
Sometimes health care leaders and physicians may have common interests so they might align. But sometimes their interest may not be the same. Physician alignment refers to collaboration between physicians and their medical groups to accomplish common goals. They might not be aware of issues outside their hospitals and medical groups while health care leaders are supposed to consider all the medical groups and hospitals as well as other health related organizations together.
