In 1915 one of the world's worst genocides was initiated, almost completely erasing the Armenian people from the Turkish and middle east area. Killing over 1.5 million people over the course seven years. Ranked as one of the worst genocides, caused by the Turkish government, the Armenian were seen as lesser than their non- christian neighbors and killed over their beliefs. Subjected to higher tax laws and unequal treatment, the Armenian people still thrived under the Ottoman rule. During World War One, the Armenian people became a threat to the Turkish Government provoking a extermination of a the people.…
In the past hundred of years many genocide atrocities have occurred, taking a toll on human lives, and influencing the history of countries worldwide. The Armenian Genocide and Cambodian Genocide occurred at two very different times, but there are connections between the two that make them comparable. The Armenian Genocide beginning on April 24, 1915 was under the rule of the Young Turks, who wanted to to turkify the Ottoman Empire, by ridding it of any Non- Turks, especially those of whom were Christian. During the seven years of this destructive genocide nearly one point five million Armenians were dead or removed from the country, yet the Turkish government today does not acknowledge the genocide happening. Along with the Armenian Genocide,…
Within his book, Suny points out that the Hamidian Massacres were not the start of genocidal actions against the Armenians as many believe. “On closer examination the Hamidian Massacres we not genocidal but a kind of “exemplary repression,” demonstrating to the sultan's subjects what the consequences of resistance and rebellion would be” (131). The massacres showed no intent to eliminate the Armenians unlike the genocide of 1915, but only to show the power of the sultan and restore balance to his land. The genocidal intentions came later on in history from the CUP and the Young Turks. The Young Turks originally looked to help the Armenians however, as the CUP grew they began to manipulate the government in their own favor pushing for ideas of a Turkish land and a uniting of all Turkish people.…
The Armenian genocide happened during World War I, and can fall under the shadow of other events, such as the Holocaust. Although overshadowed, it is still an instance of genocide that should be acknowledged in curriculum. The people killed in this particular genocide were Eastern Armenians, and over half of their minority was exterminated. Over a million Armenians were killed because of their religion, which was Christianity, and those remaining were unfairly forced into exile. The person that was in charge of the nation at this time was Sultan Abdul-Hamid II, and he was also the person that originally exploited the Armenians in Constantinople.…
It involved Armenian men, women, and children. Turks disliked Armenians because of their religious beliefs and the facts that they were jealous of the Armenians. The Armenians had education and wealth, they would even send the children off to finish their education in America or Paris, while the Turkish had little businesses, worked in farms, and had little money. The genocide then began in April 24, 1915 because the Armenians believed in Christianity. They also accepted Christianity as their state religion.…
When the Turks felt their power being tested by the Armenians, they took military action against them. The Turks believe what was done was understandable and necessary to protect the state’s survival from the rebellious Armenians in a time of war. Those on the Armenian’s side say that the huge deportations and massacres of the unthreatening, peaceful Armenian people by the unrelenting Turks should be considered genocide. Those in favor of the Turks are mostly from the Turkish State and also include some historians. Many deniers of the genocide will blame the Armenians, saying: (Suny 932).…
Hundreds of thousands were killed by Turkish soldiers or Kurdish mobs during the march to Syria. Another atrocity performed was the large amount of women and children both raped and abused. Also, some Armenians who refused to convert to Muslim would be crucified. Altogether, these barbaric acts lead to so many deaths that caused many people to not be aware of the…
The Armenian Holocaust was a time of pure and utter despair, it was a brutal genocide that killed approximately 1.5 million people. It took place in the Ottoman Empire; the Turkish Armenians wanted to make the empire thoroughly Turkish and they especially wanted to get the Christian Armenians out of the empire. As a result, there were massacres and deportations that ended in many deaths of horrific exterminations. The exterminations consisted of torturing, enslavement, and deportations with no food or water to go along, all in order to “cleanse” the Turkish nation.…

The Armenians were treated very poorly, killed in many different ways and the Turkification had begun. The Turkish government had declared war on the Ottoman Empire. What do 85 percent of Fortune 500 executives, the first female astronaut, and the first female senator all have in common? All of these people were members of a Greek organization during their time in college. As the fall semester at American University enters the home stretch with finals looming and new schedules being created, students are preparing for a new start when the spring semester rolls around. Unlike most colleges and universities, American University enforces a rule that only allows first year students to join Greek Life in the Spring semester. Once students return to American and begin their spring semester, many will have to weigh the option of joining Greek Life.…
The cultural genocide at the hands of the Indian residential school system along with historic and present day oppression and abuse is a blood stain on Canadian culture and government. The government has made steps to atone and reconcile for the destruction it brought upon the First Nations community, however, I do not think enough has been done or ever will be done as long as the oppressor’s government institution is in place. It will ultimately be left up to the First Nations people to come together as a unit to rebuild the structure of their community. Indian Residential School System The Indian residential schools (IRS) were domestic terrorism hubs and locations ordained by the Canadian government and churches which were operated and enforced…
The Price of Containment The influence of outside countries manipulating Greece during its Civil War beginning in 1943, for their own gains, contributed powerfully to the successful conflict against communist forces within and outside of Greece. This war would transpire with the aid of foreign states to show the world the weaknesses in the supposed victorious and all- powerful ideology, and that these communist forces could be defeated under the right circumstances. The Greek Civil War violently escalated to a lengthy proxy war that included involvement of a widespread of European countries as well as the U.S. It became one of the only successful conflicts during the Cold War to rise against the spread of communism and never be controlled by…
